THE HAITI POSTER PROJECT
In an effort to raise $1 000 000 for Doctors Without Borders, the HAITI POSTER PROJECT seek limited edition sets of posters from artists, designers and design firms from around the world to be sold online. If you’ve yet to make a donation or aren’t able to, Olio will be donating screenprinting equipment, studio time & printing help to any Victoria artists willing to produce a print for the project – PLEASE take advantage of this, as this is a hugely worthwhile project.
The project concept is simple – As designers, we have the collective ability to do what we love, AND to create a difference. THE HAITI POSTER PROJECT has been conceived as a collective effort by the design community to unite and effect change through our work. In order for this project to be successful, we are counting on designer participation.
Commit to having a print ready by March 5th and Olio will donate the studio time, films, screens, printing supplies and shipping costs needed to make it happen. You need to supply your own paper & ink, though that’s it.
Time is VERY pressing – get in touch with Olio (email@example.com) ASAP. This is a very awesome opportunity and you would be foolish to sit it out.
Anteism has been amazingly busy putting together iMygrate, an exhibition which documents the travels of some 300+ characters by over 100 artists from around the world. The show opens Friday, February 19th at Olio, though you can preview a good chunk of the works and view artist profiles for each of the 100+ artists right now at www.anteism.com.
If get a chance, take a look through the artist profiles. The scope of the show and volume of works are really impressive.
FREE STUFF: HP LARGE FORMAT PRINTER & OLD SCREENS
We've upgraded our stuff over the last year & hopefully someone can make use of our old materials. We have our old large format printer, an HP 1120C that we used to print our 13x19 films, and old screen frames.
Neither are in great shape - the printer works, though intermittent & needs a refill in one ink cartridge & the mesh in the frames isn't great - though they are free. They will be going on UsedVictoria soon, though mailing list folks & members get first crack. Put them to good use!
COMMUKNITS KNITTING GROUP
The Commuknits - a gathering of fellow knitters/crafters and those who want to be - meet every second Saturday at the Olio Cooperative. Open to all those who wish to knit the revolution, and meet other like minded people. Wool and needles supplied, sometimes tea and goodies, and you supply the energy and ability.
NEXT MEETING: SATURDAY, FEB. 20TH • 1:00PM • FREE
