Sound & Vision, the Olio Cooperative’s pilot project of silent films paired to live accompaniment, will see it’s second year this March.  Since the success of the inaugural event the popularity of the paired mediums has seen a strong resurgence, owing largely to the widening availability of older titles on home media for the first time and the growing lists of classics finding a new home in the public domain.  With it’s second year, Sound & Vision seeks to further this renewed tradition, giving the public and the performer a forum to explore the relation between sights and sounds, old and new.

Please join us Friday, March 19th at Cinecenta Theatre for Sound & Vision II, a spirited evening of local artists performing original scores for silent classics.  This year’s event will expand to 3 programs, beginning with a 4:00pm matinee of Charlie Chaplin shorts, followed by programs at 7:15 & 9:30 consisting of shorts and feature length silent films.  Full list of films and performers will be announced soon & advance tickets for individual programs go on sale February 12th at Ditch Records (635 Johnson st.) and online at www.oliocooperative.ca.

Submissions for performers and their film choices are currently being accepted & musicians of any style are encouraged to get in touch if they are interested in performing to a silent film of their choosing.  Submissions are open to groups and solo performers, as well as individuals looking to collaborate with other musicians on a score.  Please email admin@oliocooperative.ca with a brief description of your music (with links when possible) and a short list of films before February 4th

OPENS FEB.19th AT OLIO

January 21st, 2010

In the Summer of 2007, Anteism sent out a call for submissions to artists from around the world to submit small (letter size) character based artworks. These character artworks would then be distributed across the 2and largest country in the world.

iMygrate will document and showcase the characters that went on this voyage through original artworks & photographs. There will also be an interactive multimedia display to highlight the trail that these characters took. As a companion to the show and to document the project a publication will be created by Anteism Publishing and will be available at the exhibition and online through their website.

Opening reception for iMygrate is Friday, February 19th at the Olio Cooperative • 8:00pm • Donations Appreciated
