Community Letterpress Printing

Olio Artists & Workers Cooperative is a non-profit artist run centre looking to expand their community screenprinting shop to include 3 letterpress printing presses in an effort to make the medium accessible to artists, designers, crafters, makers, do-ers and anyone in between for inarguably affordable rates.

What’s it do?

Letterpress machines are versatile and beautiful things, capable of producing unmistakable prints, embossing, die cutting, perforating, folding, custom packaging, including vinyl & CD sleeves, custom boxes & just about anything you can think of. But they are heavy. And expensive. And hard to use.

The workhorse of the shop will be a 3/4 tonne Chandler & Price printing press capable of printing up to 10×15″, embossing, perforating, scoring, die cutting and foil stamping.

The main press will be flanked by two smaller presses, a bank of lead type, custom wood block cutting & plate making facilities, stock dies for vinyl sleeves, business cards & custom packaging.

Publicly Accessible & Affordable

The letterpress printing facilities will be available to the public for rates that artists, designers, printers, crafters and makers can afford. $30 annual membership (includes access to cooperative studio including screenprinting facilities) and $5/hr studio time.

Inks, consumables, stocks, plates & dies will be offered with Olio’s current non-profit rates.
